Jo Baker: Bespoke Tailoring ─ Contemporary Design

Classical training in the art of bespoke tailoring at distinguished Savile Row establishment, Gieves & Hawkes, combined with skills acquired from a degree in fashion design, Jo Baker translates the creative and conceptual into exquisitely realised, timeless pieces.

Fusing traditional techniques from her comprehensive personal collection of antique cut and sew reference books with contemporary practice, Jo is currently designing and creating a capsule collection of hand crafted couture ladies press pieces to be showcased in boutiques and galleries in London.

Awards and Achievements:

- Both Gold and Silver Awards at the 2005 Merchant Taylor’s Golden Shears competition
- Selected to appear at the London Cut exhibition in Florence at Pitti menswear in 2006
- On panel of judges for nationwide student design competition at The Clothes Show Live: Can U Cut It? in conjunction with Skillfast and The Clothes Show Live in 2005.
- Assisted in launch of Newham College pre-apprenticeship training course in 2005, advising academic structure. Interviewed as case study for brochure. Part time tutor since 2009.
- Invited by Skillfast-UK to participate in and promote CD encouraging students to study fashion and tailoring in 2005.

Jo Baker also collaborates with high profile fashion industry designers, consulting and creating showpieces for catwalk collections:

-Collaborated with Richard Nicoll to promote tailoring into his collection, showing four seasons at London Fashion Week.
-Gieves label, collaborated with Joe Casely-Hayford for three seasons, developing bespoke showpieces for to be shown at Paris Fashion Week.
- Design assistant for Anna Sui for two collections.

Jo Baker continues to work as a freelance tailor for Savile Row establishments such as Gieves & Hawkes and Stowers Bespoke, as well as working with private clients.
